Godless Constitution? Empty Godless Constitution?

This fits both in the World and Church, but I'll just put it here.

I'm taking Government in school this year, and I've been reading several different view points on the US Constitution. One claims the Constitution was totally Christian, and another says it's purposefully a godless Constitution. Which one do you think is correct? Do we need to get back to the "US' roots" and we'll be a Christian nation? Or was that never our Founding Father's goal?
